After an unprecedented leak of images and specifications, DJI have successfully launched their latest and arguably most innovative drone to date, the Mavic Air Drone.
Weighing only 430g, the ultracompact Mavic Air is the size of a large smartphone, becoming even smaller when the arms are folded in. This is certainly one of the most portable drones available, even fitting comfortably in a coat pocket.
A first for a drone of this size, the camera is housed inside a 3-axis mechanical gimbal to reduce vibration, allowing for striking 12 MP stills, 32 MP panoramas and 4K video recording at 100 Mbps plus slow-motion video at 120 fps.
The Mavic Air has several intuitive automated flight modes to give the pilot more flexibility with their flying and footage: ActiveTrack will follow your selected target even while they’re in motion, SmartCapture allows the drone to be controlled by hand gestures, and QuickShots, including the new Asteroid and Boomerang, enables the pilot to do professional manoeuvres without the years of practice.
Despite its size, this drone has some impressive capabilities, including 21-minute flight time due to its Intelligent Flight Battery, max speed of 42.5 mph, multiple 3-Directional environment sensing cameras for better obstacle avoidance, and much more.
