Online Theory Content
Phase 1 covers the theory syllabus as set by the CAA comprising of the modules as shown above. We don’t give you piles of reference material to plod through, or expect you to take days off from your work. The course is simply laid out and easy to absorb. To assist you with any note taking, the presentation material is also available for download. A practice exam is provided to get you in the groove of taking tests.
You may pause or stop a module at any time and resume at the same place at a later date. You can also revisit completed modules. We will be available via phone or email to assist you. Once you have successfully completed the theory course modules, we will arrange your online theory examination.
Theory Examination
The examination is held online in accordance with CAA requirements and your Invigilator will assist you to set this up. The exam is of 40 multi-choice questions.
Operations Manual
We provide you with our excellent Operations Manual template resources to assist you in writing this CAA required document and will guide and support you through the process of shaping the document to suit your operations.
The Practical Flight Assessment
The Practical Flight Assessment is primarily safety focused and tests a candidate’s flying skill and safe operational ability. This is set against the candidate’s company Operations Manual. 3iC will provide you with close support and guidance documents leading up to the assessment so nothing will come as a surprise to you. Your Assessor will be looking for safe and competent flying – not amazing hand flying skills and will quickly put you at your ease to ensure that you perform to your maximum capability.
To ease you into the assessment, we can provide an hour of pre-assessment flight training or train you to professional standard from scratch.
The Flight Assessment process takes approximately 1hr.
Operational Authorisation Application
Once you have completed the process, you can then apply to the CAA for an Operational Authorisation.
Once you have completed your 3iC GVC course, to operate commercially you will first have to apply to the CAA for an Operations Authorisation (OA). To do this you will need the following:
1. 3iC award of a GVC
2. Copy of your Operations Manual
3. Fee made payable to the CAA at the current rate
4. Commercial insurance will be required for your operations
The fee payable to the CAA can change so refer to document – CAA document ORS5 Scheme of Charges (General Aviation)
